Overview

Iron Vanguard: Steel Front is the kind of first-person shooter that reminds you why the genre exists. Set in a near-future conflict zone where mechanised infantry units clash across devastated urban landscapes, the game delivers an experience that is simultaneously brutal and beautiful. Ironclad Studios has crafted one of the most technically impressive shooters of the decade, and it shows in every frame.

Gameplay

The core gunplay is exceptional. Each weapon has a distinct feel — from the satisfying recoil of the heavy assault rifle to the precise snap of the anti-materiel sniper. Movement is weighty but responsive, rewarding players who learn the mechanics rather than those who simply spray and pray. The game introduces a new "Vanguard Stance" system that allows players to brace against cover for improved accuracy, adding a tactical layer that elevates engagements beyond simple run-and-gun encounters.

Missions are varied and well-paced. The campaign spans twelve chapters across five distinct environments, each with its own visual identity and tactical challenges. Australian server performance is excellent — we tested on Sydney-based servers and consistently achieved sub-30ms ping during multiplayer sessions.

Visuals & Audio

Visually, Iron Vanguard is a showpiece. The destruction engine is the best we have seen in the genre — walls crumble realistically, dust lingers in the air, and lighting shifts dynamically as structures collapse. The audio design is equally impressive: gunshots carry genuine weight, and the ambient soundscape of a warzone is deeply immersive.

Multiplayer

The multiplayer suite is robust, featuring eight modes and twenty-two maps at launch. The ranked system is well-balanced, and the progression loop keeps players engaged for hundreds of hours. Crossplay between PC and console is handled well, with optional input-based matchmaking available for those who prefer it.

Pros

  • Outstanding gunplay and movement
  • Stunning visual fidelity
  • Excellent Australian server performance
  • Deep and rewarding multiplayer
  • Varied and well-paced campaign

Cons

  • Campaign ends abruptly
  • Steep hardware requirements on PC
  • Limited customisation at launch

Verdict

Iron Vanguard: Steel Front is a landmark FPS title that sets a new standard for the genre. It is not without minor flaws, but the sheer quality of its core experience more than compensates. Whether you are a competitive multiplayer devotee or a single-player enthusiast, this is an essential addition to your library.
